What are you supposed to do with tea leaves in between pots of tea?

I just started brewing my own tea, and I’m unsure of what to do in between steeps. I don’t want to throw the leaves away, but I’m not really sure how to store them. Should I just leave them in the strainer? Or put them in a plastic bag? Or something completely different? Thanks in advance!

You can reuse loose tea leaves 2x (Black tea) or up to 4x (Green & White teas) times. I’ve made 2 pots in a row from the same leaves & the flavor was fine (just had to add another minute or two to the steep time).

If you made sure they were perfectly dry & stored airtight, you could resteep within 12 or so hours, but I’d chuck em if not using right away. I’d also put them in the fridge in a ziplock to reduce the chance of mold forming.

After final use, they make excellent compost.

    bin them ! ! ? ? what else could u do with them ? ? ?

Tea leaves can only be used once, so if you have used them, throw them away. You can put them on plants or in a compost heap but never re-use them, its just not done.

Being a master gardener I would put them in my compost bin. I tip my hat to linze2go. So what is a compost bin. That is what you need to find out. You want to know how to recycle organic material correctly it seems. I am not allowed to supply content, so compost bin would be your research.

Most loose tea can be used for brewing more than once, usually twice or three times. I put my tea in a small airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. It keeps for at least 3-4 days maybe longer, when they are totally spent you should compost them.

Some teas are actually even better the second steep around – but I’d only save them for a few hours, maybe a day max. If I’m going to brew another cup of hot tea soon, I’ll just leave the loose leaf tea in your tea infusers, but if it’s going to be a while (a few hours or overnight), put in an airtight container (ziploc bag or even set the whole strainer in a sealed container) until your next use. It’s hard dealing with wet loose leaf tea, so I’d keep it them in the tea infusers until you’re ready for your next go-round!
